Just post a pic up here and someone will know for sure

Remember that cams spin at half the speed of the crank, so if things are all wonky you may just need to spin it around again.

How did you time it when you put the cams back in when you put the cylinders back on? Did you just slap them in?

Front exhaust timed correctly.

The idler should be timed when fitting the chains too, using the mark on the head. (This picture is of the mark, not the teeth that should line up with it)

there is a specific procedure spelled out in the manual that you must follow to get the cams installed correctly. Use it.

OOps...

Check the bearing/play on the gear beneath the camshafts withouth the camchain tensioned.
Wearing out these bearings for whatever reason causes the timing to be way off (and poor teeth contact).

If it comes up a half-tooth off the crank is 360 degrees off (cam turns 1/2 speed). There's a lot of TLs driving around with cams improperly installed by incompetents 1/2 tooth off, and they still run just not as well.

The cams spin at half-crank speed. The cams have an odd number of teeth. So on exactly one rotation of the crank, the cam will turn half-way...where the cam had a tooth line up now the exact opposite side of the cam gear now lines up, and since there's an odd number of teeth that means the space between teeth lines up, so it's off a half-tooth.

One rotation a tooth will line up with an arbitrary point...next rotation of the crank to the exact same crank position the cam will be a half-tooth off...next rotation lines up...next rotation half-tooth off etc. etc.

Actually, you might be able to alter the timing on purpose via this method to get close then using offset keys to fine-tune it. A lot easier than re-pressing on cam gears or re-pressing the gear onto the sprocket shaft of the idler, and a lot cheaper than adjustable gears.
