make sure the shaft is super clean.. no rust/corrosion, and when you slide the new seals over the shaft it's a good idea to cover them with a film of plastic wrap to keep the sharp edge of the shaft from cutting the new seal. I could never master the damn plastic wrap like the others so i just made sure there was a nice film of oil on the shaft and seal so it would pass easily along the shaft, then GENTLY,GENTLY put it back together. Worked great for 9kmiles till the motor siezed from my #2 exhaust cam locking solid in the head. If you do a search therer is some good info on how to do the whole damn thing.

Degrease the impellor shaft and wrap 1-2 turns of electrical insulation tape around the sharp flats and cut neat with a sharp knife. Then apply a little engine oil to the seal and shaft and gently slide over, then use knife to find end of tape and carefully remove but be careful not to contaminate the white ceramic disc with oil.

Also check the main clutch cover gasket sits on the cases correctly, sometimes bad storage can deform the gasket and even though located on the 2 dowels can only half or less cover the mating joint and therefore leak.
