got my ebay head today. is there anyway to determine that it was described accuratly and is in fact a 97 tls head? the casting marks are different, dont know if that matters or not. im still waiting on the exhaust cam and head gasket, but hopefully this puppy breaths soon

Round Ports = 97 TLS
The Royal Mail tracking number I gave you can be used on the USPS web site once the cam crosses the sea

Looks '97-ish to me. I think the difference can be seen even on an assembled engine looking down the throttle bodies with the butterflies open.

I see very few heads with the restrictor and as yet not really sure what years/regions got it, certainly not all TLR's

neither head had a restrictor, i had removed the fitting to install an sv thermostat since its all apart. the new housing comes with hoses and ends, figured id use them since they are newer than 97.
no worries sam, i know it has a long way to travel. im assuming i need to swap in my intake cam? the intake cam on the rear head is def different. anything else i should do while its semi torn down?

ITS ALIVE!
i was so relieved it started without any knocking or weird noises. only issue is a water leak due to me leaving one of the o-rings out of the thermostat hoses(doh!) i put one in without pulling the tank and airbox, but couldnt get the connector to seat and it still leaks. unless someone knows a trick to get it to seat, then i get to pull it back down. oh well......im still pumped.

well its running, but is running like poo. the bike will only idle at around 2k or at 1k.....where it will eventually die. it will always start right back up. the idle screw has no effect then all the sudden will jump up, the adjustment screw is turning but the motor doesnt respond. i checked the fast idle cable, its not seized. ran the codes and came up empty. seems everybodys first suggestion is tps and sync, well what if you cant get it to idle down to check tps, or idle is too low/erratic to get a reading? all vacuum lines are hooked up and tb's and air box are snug. any other suggestions? hit me.

checked both plugs, both looked as new. attemped to sync tb's best i could with wacko idle. adjust some still not better. it loads up and runs rough/dies, but will restart immediatly before loading up again. if throttle applied will back fire through front throttle body. maybe i didnt get one of the cams on the right tooth? any help appreciated
