Dude if you're non-mechanical to the point that you can't figure out how allowing a motor to breath better is beneficial, then I sincerely hope that any mods you're doing are being supervised by someone who know's what they're at.

I'm glad you're interested in doing your own work - it's the best way to learn - but that learning process is gonna get very expensive unless you undestand exactly what's going on in there before you start spannering.

I appreciate your welcoming concern for my mechanical abilities. The concern is not whether or not I can do the mod. My question is more is it going to be beneficial to someone who isn’t racing or stunting or having any mechanical problems.
Secondly, more air isn’t always better if it is not done within specific parameters. After searching further into this topic the box is designed for air flow a certain way and any changes to that may not be as beneficial and simple as just cutting away or removing plastic. There are other websites that talk about removing this plastic is counter productive as the shape of the box with the more air flow causes turbulence and actually slowing the air into the bike. But if the point is not just for airflow I would like to no the other reasons.

My point in this question is just that the frequent mods often say what they are and how to do it, but not the reason for it. I want to go through and do a lot of these mods but if the reason for it is because some ones bike is malfunctioning and mine isn’t then I don’t need to do the mod per se’. or if they are trying to get there bike down to a 10 second quarter mile and doing the mod requires multiple other mods and remapping then im probably not going to do it.

And lastly any area I do feel incompetent I do have my brother who has been a mechanic for the last 10 years to bounce stuff off, and you guys here

More air in this case is also going hand in hand with remapping your ECU to match along with your other mods.

If you aren't planning to do the other mods.... Don't do this one. You are dead on with airflow - within parameters. The airbox mod was intended to go along with other mods. If you don't plan to re-map your ECU to increase fuel, you bike will mostlikey run really crappy. If you don't go with a high flow can.... etc.

I've seen many, many guys that tried to add airflow without increasing fuel expecting some change only to find hat their bike ran crappy and were more tempermental.

Of course, in the end, its your bike. Do what you want and don't listen to anyone else's opinion over your own
