I have a Cali-bike also, it's an evaporator trap. It's suppose to trap vapors from the gas tank and route them back to the throttle body. Mine has been ditched.

Follow the tubes and either blank them off on the rubber hose near the heads or buy/make block off plates for the heads

im glad this was posted. i have been looking at that thing since i bought the bike like wtf is that! and on the tube on the right side or the canister, closest to the farings, has a filter in it. it kinda looks like a cheap fuel filter from autozone. now im really confused.

That's probably the one-way pressure release valve.

Remove the canister, block the line that goes to the throttle body, route the other line (from the tank) down toward the pavement. Some guys put a small fuel filter on the end of it (not sure why). It will not affect performance, it's just a way to trap and reuse the vapor from the tank.
Edit: You can reuse the pressure valve on the end of the tank line to maintain the same vacuum pressure in the tank, but I don't think it matters. My tank was replaced with a non-Cali tank so it doesn't have the extra line coming out of it.

so ive been doing some searching on this subject. and i have a few questions.
1 they all say i can plug the gas tank line and make my gas cap vent. How do i make my gas cap vent?
2 the two hoses venting the TB ive read can just be plugged. is this true. what if i just ran them into eachother?
3 if i cant vent my gas cap you say i can just run a line down and out. there is already another line doing that do i just run it with that one?
Id like to get rid of all unnecessary things on this bike while im doing stuff. so the less running of hoses to vent would be nice. i think i would rather just plug the gas tank and set up the filter gas cap if i could.

I'm not sure how to vent the cap, I've not done it.
You can plug the two TB lines separately or together.
The other line from the tank is a drain from the well around the filler hole. If you spill gas there or rain gets in there it will drain out under the bike from that second line. Run the vapor line along side it.
