Engine Rebuild
I posted on here a while ago regarding my gear problem,,,, and established that i have broken the dogs on the second gear cog....
the question now, is from start to finish,,, once the motor is out,,, how long it will take to rebuild it if i have only got evenings and weekends to do it in??
I am an experienced mechanic,, but have never taken a v-twin apart, so any thoughts would be helpful, as i am not really looking forward to stripping my bike down, as it wasnt long ago that i did it for a full spray,, this time it is all the way though
Thanks in advance.
Rick.

Sam just did one in four hours but then that's Sam!!!
how long is a piece of string.
I usually work on a 1 to 3 ratio. if it takes me and hour to pull it apart it will take 3 to reasssemble. I'd suggest you take a few photos along the way and download the manual to reveal all the hidden screws. I would thing 12 hours total would be a reasonable expectaion of a mechanic. add in time to locate parts.
so say strip and assess. order parts clean and prep for rebuild . maybe have valves and seats cut and shims set while waiting . consider dropping in some new rings. stay away from the crank. new gearbox bearings and gaskets , barnett clutch springs maybe too. check cam chains and guides.

If you want to chat to me, it would be easier than trying to type everything drop me a pm for my number.
There are a few shortcuts to save time and money and also some things I would suggest replacing as an insurance policy if you are keeping the bike etc

but thanks for the advice,,,,, i have found a guy locally to me today that has owned loads of TL's and has a shed full of bits,, including new gearbox cogs and shafts etc,, he has got two bottom halfs of engines too.
I am getting the engine out tomorrow and pulling it apart tomorrow night and for the rest of next week(evenings).
I have sent you a PM Sam, would be good to have a chat about it as any advice is good advice especially as you have done this before.
