Weird problem

Well, fisrt hi to all people!

My TLS starts cold OK and smoothly idles about 1200 rpm. After a while when engine temperature rises, it dies. Adjusting idle to, say 2200 rpm, it runs but everything under 2000 rpm is imbossible. Makes city cruising imbossible. I have checked (almost) all. Gas pressure is about 3 bar, no leaks or what so ewer. Borrowed ECU, no help.

ARGGHH!!!

Sounds like it may be way rich or lean, probably lean. When cold it is on the super-rich warm-up map, then once warm it moves off that map and onto the normal (much leaner map). The TLS, esp the '97 with its huge ports needs quite a bit of fuel to stay running at low rpms.

If its been remapped that could be the source of the problems, if not, start with the usual TPS, TB sync and valve lash check.

I'd also check the temp sensor and thermostat. Does it keep temp?
Other thing that come to mind are vacuum leaks that only develop if the engine is up on temp.

Greetings
Rufer

Another day in garage. I have service manual and had checked almost everything again. All vacuum lines are just they should be, sensors work properly and give reasonable reading. TPS is OK, synchorosation (eh?) does not affect much. Lambda shows between 0,9 - 1,1.

Here gomes weirdo: Idles again ~2000rpm and after adjusting idle about 1/8 round, it dies. I took hose off Intake Pressure Sensor, name might be wrong but you clever people know what I mean. Now idles 1200rpm. So I made 4,5 source for current and measured sensor. All reading are like service manual. Voltage output increase and decrease just it should. Hose back and idles again 2000 rpm. Huh?

might be worth taking the airbox off and checking that all the vacum hoses into the carbs and airbox are in correctly, any one of em out or incorrect will cause rough running
good luck with it

off with the air box, get a spray bottle filled with soapy water, start engine, spray around base of throttle bodies and intake manifold. The throttle body boots are probably loosened up. You might want to reset the high and low idle when you do this, blow out your air filter, lube the throttle body slides/butterfly, lube the linkages. NOTE: DO NOT TRY ADJUSTING THE THROTTLE BODY LINKAGES UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!!!
