Have you owned one?
If not; shut up.
If you have; shut up and go tune it properly.
My 99 would start 1-2 kicks hot or cold.

Considering how many I have raced against and worked on over the years, I'm quite confident I'm able to comment accurately, even though you've owned ONE, and it was a 99.

An update... Lots of great advice here and yesterday I was finally able to meet up with the seller and see the bike. Some observations;
- The pictures don't lie, it's certainly not a clean bike, it's been used. But it appears strong (true to the 426 as I've learned). It'll need some tinkering, but only esthetically for the most part (guilty; I like my bikes to look good).
- It's stupid POWERFUL compared to my DRZ! Although it had a 52T sprocket on it in dirt trim when I took it for a boot, it lofted the front wheel stupidly easily and pulled hard.
- There are more parts for this thing than I can believe. The owner's intent was to actually build a 2nd bike so that he'd have a dedicated SM/street bike and another just for dirt... he almost had it (missing forks, tank and reliable 2nd engine) he decided he was done with the street and went with a good deal on a converted CRF450.
- Lastly, keeping in mind that Ontario won't allow you to street a dirtbike anymore (one that's already plated is grandfathered) I don't think too many bikes will be coming along that I'll be able to get on the street making this one even more attractive.
The owner and some friends are going to an indoor MX track tomorrow and he's offered to bring the bike for me to ride there... where's my babysitter?
The other fact for me to consider is that for me to dirt the DRZ I'm looking at about $1000 (wheels, tires, brakes) and to start opening it up for power another $1000 (carb, pipe) which turns my DRZ into a $7000+ bike... or there's the YZ which needs nothing (other than look good bits) for half that... actually leaves money in my pocket after selling.
My mind is almost made up but my friend, Procrastination, keeps talking to me!

A Kourier has to establish space on the pavement. Predictable law-abiding behaviour lulls drivers. They mentally assign you to a little box in the lane, assume you will stay there, can't handle it when you leave that little box.
Y.T. is not fond of boxes. Y.T. establishes her space on the pavement by zagging mightily from lane to lane, establishing a precedent of scary randomness. Keeps people on their toes, makes them react to her, instead of the other way round.

The YZ sounds like a winner (assuming you aren't alergic to kick starters)

do it coyo
yz's are awesome. when i first got one i was like a monkey on a greyhound, all over the place. even with the later stuff it's still a quick bike
the best way to start a 4st is to push the kick down untill you can feel tdc and then just push it slightly over, take the kick start back to the top and give it a full 180 deg smooth kick back to the bottom, not like a 2st which you just kick and kick till it starts. just be smooth it'll always fire up
hot starts work really well, had one on my crf. they just open an air valve in the carb
have a good un

Sounds like a winner. Grab it.
I am going to be next. WR450 is on my wish list. The DRZ was never meant to do what I have been doing with it the last 6 years. It was supposed to be a casual trail bike and campground runaround. My hard ridin' dirt bike days were supposed to be over. Silly me. It didn't turn out that way. Instead it got ridden as hard as I could ride it and basically hammered on the gnarly trails from California to Colorado. The DRZ suffices, but it is the wrong tool for the job. Fortunately there is a CR250 hanging about that needs to be ridden and cared for
Yep, the yellow pig has been ridden 4,000 miles off road on the gnarliest trails I can find, with all the enthusiasm I can muster. Good times. Anyone want to buy a used DRZ?
How about a gratuitous never before seen Duke on the DRZ off road pic from the vast collection? Dove Canyon, CA. I call this DRZ on the moon. The piggy dual sport is more than the sum of it's parts to me, perhaps because it has rolled across some of the coolest terrain on earth. That makes it special to me. Oh and no doubt BP will notice the CR250. What a blingmobile that bike was

That is a blinged out CR
btw craig also check out the klx450, I've been hearing some great things about it as well. One of the mags also ranked it the most durable 450 after racing it for a year and tearing it down for inspection IIRC (well, the KXF450 version).

After that intro, that DRZ should be cheap. I might be interested after a while. Been thinking of getting something plated for dual sport stuff so I can hit the fun stuff at Big Bend.
