Low Idle And Stalling

Okay, I'm stumped now. I recently did the airbox mod. and replaced my filter with a K&N on my bike exactly as shown/explained here on the site, and now my TLS just seems to stall when rolling to a stop. It'll idle fine in neutral, even rev fine, but when it's in gear under a load, it just sputters and stalls when I come to a stop (I even tried using the fast idle to keep the revs up, but it still stalls). I did read the charts and I know we can remove all the parts/wires that were colored in red, but just to be safe, I just left them on (even plugged in for the Hell of it). I did swap out the plugs since they were fouled thinking that could be contributing to the problem, and the bike ran fine at first (for about a day), but then started to stall out once again every time I came to a stop. Also, as I ride the bike, it seems to kind of surge when I'm crusing and keeping the throttle still.

I took my bike to my local mechanic where I had both TB sync, the TB sensor adjusted a bit, and had the injectors clean, and now it idles, but very low to the point where it's wanting to stall (but doesn't anymore). Being that my mechanic worked on TL's (in fact, one of his workers owned a TLR), he himself is a bit stumped at why it's acting the way it is. He checked the PCII and it was fine, checked the ECU (even swapped it with another TL to make sure), and that too was fine. The bike isn't throwing any F1 codes or anything so there really isn't any way of telling which (if any) sensors are out. All of my vacuum lines on the bike have been replaced (less the a year ago), and all are still in good shape (no cracks, pinched lines, etc.). He's also put the bike on the dyno to see whether it's running rich/lean, but it's a perfect mixture.

Before the airbox mod, I did notice when I had the bike in neutral, and idled up and held it at around 3000 rpm's, the bike would surge a bit and jump to around 4000 rpms, then idle back down (this is when I'm just holding the throttle at the same position), but never did any stalling or sputtering like the way it's doing now with the airbox mod.

The only mods I have done on the bike are PCII, D&D slip ons, and now, the airbox mod. My bike has been in the shop for about 2-3 weeks now. If any of you have any suggestions, comments, helpful hits, I'd greatly appreciate it. BTW, I'm new here. It's nice to meet y'all.

Welcome

1st thing I'd do is unplug the PCII.

(You didn't have the coolant sensor unplugged when you had the airbox off and somehow swapped the leads over between the airbox sensor and coolant sensor? - Easy to check - The temperature display should be showing normal coolant temperature i.e. >80C when warmed up, not ambient temperature of the air in the airbox.)

Welcome to the Zone.

What's the idle speed set at? It should be 1200rpm give or take 50. If it's too low you'll have the very problem you describe.

My mech did unplug the PCII to see if that was the problem, but still had the same problem both plugged and unplugged. And no, I never did unplug the coolant temp sensor.

Thank you for the welcome. Before the airbox mod, it was idling at 1200 like it supposed to. Now, it's not wanting to idle at that speed. I'm not sure if maybe it could be a sensor that's causing it (bike isn't throwing an F1 code or anything).

I had a similar problem when I first fitted the PCII and my Viper cans, then I found that the airbox had some aftermarket foam filter fitted, a K&N and remap sorted it, what (if any) numbers/figures are you running on your PCII map on the MP and TP tables?

Hey, sorry for not replying sooner (I just realized that yahoo is sending all the messages here to the spam folder which I just delete without checking what's in it). Actually, I just made another post, and still problem just is getting worse. Just happened again today after I picked up the bike yesterday.

Hey, sorry for not replying sooner. I just realized that yahoo is sending all messages from this forum into the spam folder (which I just empty when I log on). The only thing I have is D&D exhaust, and the airbox mod. The commander has that ECP-003 setting I believe. I did make another post since the problem has just gotten worse, and it's just driving me nuts honestly. But before, I've had that PCII/D&D exhaust on the bike since I bought it (about 4 years ago). Bike ran excellent. I have the Airbox mod done and again, really excellent. It wasn't until the first replacement of the fuel pressure regulator where everything is going wrong. I'm stump and honestly this bike is breaking me. :/
