    Aftermarket Koso Speedometer Setup

Hey, so for my 97 TLS, I bought a Koso DB-01R to replace the factory one for my fighter setup. I have a few questions for folks that have done similar setups. I had a Acewell for a buell a while back and what a freakin nightmare.

    this is the plug setups.

    Factory speedo

    Tachometer
    Speedo
    Battery+
    Ignition+
    Fuel Level A
    Fuel Level B
    Oil
    Illumination
    High Beam
    Turn Right
    Turn Left
    Neutral
    another speedo Wire?
    Fuel Injection
    Ground
    Ground

    Koso DB-01R

    High Beam
    Neutral
    Fuel
    Turn L
    Turn R
    Oil Light
    Tachometer
    Ignition-power
    Single Ground
    2 wires for speedo sensor

    1. Can one light function be combined with other factory functions, Can Oil Light on the Koso be combined with the
    Fuel Injection indicator

    2. additional Wires?, just block them off?

    3. Can the speedo sensor wire from the factory sensor be used on the Koso? or do i have to use theirs?

I dont think it a good idea, probably with diodes on them to separate them electrically except for dash

    2. additional Wires?, just block them off?
Yes, except where it takes backlight?

    3. Can the speedo sensor wire from the factory sensor be used on the Koso? or do i have to use theirs?
As far their sensor is magnetic type, i afraid yes is the answear

    - There are 2 lines that go from the speed sensor to the dash (Speedo, another Speedo Wire).
    - What you called 'Fuel Injection' is no light, but the data line from the ECU that supplies such stuff like engine temp, error codes and TPS adjustment data.
    - 'Fuel level A' is fuel light ON, 'Fuel level B' is fuel light flashing. This however does not work with the Koso (unless some sort of converter is used).

so for the FI, there is nothing to wire it to. so i guess i will just lack diagnostic information. unless i can plug something into the ECU itself and read out a code.

-for the fuel. i would just be happy with some indication if im low on fuel. supposedly this unit has a fuel level reader. im my case if i wired to fuel light A. would it just popup if i was low on fuel? or not at all.

There is something going on at TL1000.de. User 'Balze' is working on a 'stand-alone' gimmick for the diagnostic bus. Here's some sort of a prototype that I did on a breadboard: TLS/GSXR converter

No, it would not work. The TL's (and early Gixxers) make use of 2 thermistors as fuel level sensors. In order to make those thermistors work, a certain amount of current must be driven thru them. This ist done by ~70 Ohms resistors in the TL dash resp. the so called 'Fuel Level Light Resistor' FLLR in the Gixxers. Using a ~70 Ohms resistor in series to one thermistor (either LOW or RES) MIGHT work with the Koso.

ugh. hate this thing already. so left to go/solder, i got

    Koso-
    Red=Power
    Black=Ground
    Green=Fuel

and then the speedo wire, which consists of 3 wires to a single spade connector "brown, red, Green"

    Factory Connector-
Ignition wire-Use with Red "Power Wire" or Battery.?
    Battery Wire
Fuel A-Guess I'll use this one with a 70ohm resistor
    Fuel B-Block off?
Ground-Use only a single Ground wire?
    Ground-Block off?
    Fi-Which is f'ing useless now.
    Illumination wire-block off?

Speed wire-Still not sure what to do with these. I prefer to use whats on the bike than use the koso speedo sensor
    Speed Wire

Sucks trying to do this coming off a 3rd shift, brain is fried.

    - Use the TL's 'Ignition' for Koso's 'Power'. Otherwise, if you'd use TL's 'Battery', the Koso would be always powered on.
    - Use just one of the Ground wires for the Koso. Does not matter wich one.
    - No need for the 'Ilumination'.
    - No idea about the TL speed sensor. I'd give it a try... Otherwise you have to use the Koso stuff.
    - Keep in mind that the FLLR has to be a Power resistor. This is what the GSXR's look like (2x 70 Ohms):

Just found the db-01r instructions. Well, seems the TLS speedo sensor does not provide the signals the Koso requires. Koso needs 1 to 6 pulses per tire revolution. Different from the TLS. Also I think the fuel level meter does not work with the TLS setup. Koso requires either a 100 Ohms or a 510 Ohms fuel level resistor.
