Need a new mouse
My old Logitech is driving me bonkers. Need a new mouse for general use and gaming, without breaking the bank. Way too many options on the market right now. Any suggestions?

Logitech = feces
![]() Anything ELSE with optical, preferably laser (cos lasers are cool, you can blind the ninja's with them when they climb the kiwifruit vine into your office windows) and with high resolution. I've been using MS keyboard and mouse wireless stuff for years - but then, I'm a freak ![]() ... I really want a trackball but can't find one in the shops here ![]()

I really like my Logictec S-510 mouse/keyboard, but I don't game. Both are slim, work well and wireless

Yea, I'm looking for something laser for sure, high resolution and fast polling. I've always liked logitech mice for one simple reason. They seem to be the only mouse manufacturer to figure out the correct pressure to activate the buttons. So many mice on the market are super sensitive and will trigger just from the weight of the fingers.
I have a Logitech at home that I've loved, but it's got some lag and is starting to bounce a little which is frustrating in FPS games when you think you've got the bad guy locked in only to have him move and the mouse doesn't or have him not move and the mouse does. I've an itch to give a Razer a try though, always kind of liked them but never really owned one myself. I have a MS mouse at work that works well for work tasks. The MS Habu looks like a good deal as it's both MS and Razer.I did go out today and all the stores were either overpriced, limited on available models or out of stock. Ahhh well, back to the good ole interweb to shop.

I really agonize too much over these decisions. On looking at stuff I ruled out the Razer's for a lot of reasons. Firstly that no one in town had any in stock. As much as I want to try out a new brand I want to be able to quickly return/exchange it if something is wrong. I had been looking at the Razer Lachesis which seemed to give a lot of performance for the money. However after playing with some 2000dpi mice in the store I realized that even 2000dpi is pretty sensitive and I'd be using the mice lower settings most often. Therefore the 4000dpi Lachesis would be technology overkill. It'd be kind of like the person that only prints 4x6 prints from their digital camera and thinks that a 10mp camera is going to give a better 4x6 than a 6mp camera. No thanks.
The Microsoft Habu looked like a good deal, Microsoft mouse developed with Razer. However, upon reading some reviews it seems that those folks who got stuck with bum units found themselves in the loop where Razer didn't want to support an MS mouse and MS didn't want to support a Razer mouse. Been there done that on different products, didn't want to go there again. In the end the Logitech G5 seemed kind of the Honda/vanilla of the gaming mice. It didn't come with crazy features (like internal macro storage for taking your mouse between two computers, which I don't do) but rather just did what it's supposed to do and do it well. Being as it has the same ergonomics I've come to like in my current MX500 mouse, which is my really old mouse I'm replacing, it seemed like a good buy, despite wanting something totally new. In addition, it has a few features that my wife uses on the MX500 and if I'm going to spend money on a new mouse it probably would be a good idea if it at least does all the same things she's used to doing. I don't dig the crackle blue surface which was the only thing in stock in town, but I didn't really dig any of the other looks of the G5, but it's something I can live with. Seems to be really good so far. I'll play with this weight thing, but I think it's all just a gimmick as I can feel a difference between weighted and unweighted, but it doesn't seem to affect my use of it. Oh yea, picked up a rocketfish pad to go with it, seems nice but now I need a bigger desk! ![]()

Logitech usually make nice hardware - but their software is fucking crap. I don't do wired desktops any more though ... once you go wireless, you'll never go back
![]() http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mo...s.aspx?pid=095 This is what I got imported to Jeff after fighting through corporate horseshit about not exporting from the US and not accepting international VISA cards I love it, and it replaces an older MS wireless desktop and several wired MS keyboards before that I like the ergo stuff ... I believe the mouse comes separately too but it's big ![]()

![]() I've yet to see the point in a wireless keyboard. Wireless mice are nice and all, but there still is a performance break with using a wireless mouse for gaming. Someday it'll all be there. I had a Logitech MX700 for home use, loved that when you didn't use it, you just drop it in the charging cradle. Never run out of battery. That's probably another reason you don't see wireless gaming mice. With the use of the "Always On" technology to keep from having that wakeup lag, it'd drain batteries like crazy I suppose. Anyway, I ended up long ago taking the MX700 to work and bringing my MX500 home and swapping them. MX700 died long ago and I'm back to a wired mouse at work again. G5 has been tested today, I guess I can see some difference in the weights...perhaps. I couldn't stand it fully loaded with the heavy weights and didn't like it empty. Got it loaded with the smaller weights and that seems to be working ok I guess. Everything else is stellar though. So nice to have a good stable predictible mouse again. BTW, I'm an ergo freak too. Love my MS Ergo keyboard.
