While we have mostly been lamenting the loss of the European motorcycle market, thanks chiefly to the Spanish and Italian economies, things here in the United States appear to be a bit tougher than was thought. While Americans contemplate whether or not we are headed into a double-dip recession, the American motorcycle market certainly seems [...]
As is customary, the Bridgestone media service issued their post-race debrief on tire performance on Tuesday, in which they discuss how the tires they selected held up during the race at Le Mans the previous weekend.*This week’s press release is more interesting than most, as it contains a denial from Bridgestone that there was anything wrong with the rear tire used by Jorge Lorenzo in the race on Sunday, countering claims that his tire was ...

I bought a wrecked ex-race bike to use as a track-day-only machine. I'm very experienced wrenching on bikes in general, but this is my first TLR.

The bike came with freshly powder-coated wheels, a fact I mention because it means the bearings were replaced. When I bought it, the rear axle was not tight, and when I set chain sag and started to tighten the axle the rear wheel became "tight" to the point that it doesn't rotate easily. Normally this means that a bearing is being pushed out of alignment, but in this case I'm not so sure.

I took the wheel apart and the bearings are new and measure the correct widths according to the bearing numbers. All the spacers are there, and do not appear to be damaged in any way. The spacer between the two wheel hub bearings looks to be just fine.

Anyone else run in to a similar problem, and if so, what was the outcome? The bearings turn freely with no harshness. The axle is straight. I'm thinking of taking the hub apart again and putting a thin shim between the center spacer and one of the bearings, just as a check, but maybe I'm just missing something?

Thanks!

I had it on the dyno this weekend and it only produced 89 HP and know it should be up into the 120's. I tried to install a different map in the PC3 and it made it run even worse. What am I missing? I have sync'd the throttle bodies, set throttle freeplay, and set high idle screw. Now it wont start. Had anyone had this problem at all? It always back fired from day one and always seemed to run rich but ran good and strong iI guess. My question goes, now when iI first start the bike it starts fine but after like 30 sec maybe it sounds like its dropping a cylinder maybe cause the rpms drop and it makes a funny noise and then it evens out and back and forth.it never dies but def sounds different. Bad plug? Bad connection? It just seems like it happen over night. To the point iI don't wanna ride it. The guy I got it from was def a hacker.it seems what ever I put my hand on it needs TLC. I just wanna bring it back to life love the bike than in advanced guys. I can upload a video of how it sounds if anyone is interested

any advice or pointing in the right direction would be good - here's the problem.

It's a 1999 TL1000R Streetfighter. Bike was running fine last year then wouldn't start when I took it out after winter.

Engine turning over fine, plenty of fuel in the tank and seem to have a spark at plug but didn't even offer to fire up.

Then I noticed the FI code, checked the manual and interrogated to get C22 so eventually found the Atmospheric Pressure Sensor - it looks ok.

Removed the sensor and checked the input voltage to the sensor (i.e. red wire to earth) and I'm reading 5.76V. Haynes manual says it should be 2.4-3.8V but I think I believe the service manual which says 4.5-5.5V. :confused

So, can anyone help? Is my ECU faulty?

Just a quick one as I think I low what the problem is!

Just been to Germany over the weekend and had about a years worth of rain on the run down there

Bike ran fine all weekend except on the Sunday on the way back to the ferry we had done over 250 miles on all sorts of roads and about 15 miles from the port going round a fast right hander on a very bumpy road I lost all power for a second then back on again!

I have had this before and it was the front loom as usual now I am home I have wobbled all the wiring on the front to try and make it cut out but nothing so I'm going to strip and check even though I did it about 2 months ago

Now the question is with me going round a bend and been really bumpy could it have been the tip over sensor? Or does that just cut the fuel? The symptoms I had was everything went off as if I had turned the key

It is no secret that the financial collapse of a few years had devastating effects on the motorcycle industry as a whole, and few markets have been hit worse than the Italian motorcycle market. Coming through a painful bankruptcy process, and re-emerging into a still devastated Italian economy, Moto Morini has perhaps had the worst luck of the Italian brands in dealing with this economic chaos.
Wiscombe is a very tight twisty track with lots of hard objects and crests in the wrong places, normally the HGV's struggle to even make the top10, I managed a 3rd place which was quite a surprise !

About half way through there's a right hand bend in a dip where I was brushing the grass with my hand/arm, thankfully I now run brush guards to protect the front brake lever......

Let go out of the last corner but nothing too serious.
Defending titles is not easy. In the last twenty years, only Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi have managed to win successive championships, despite both Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner winning twice. Why is it so hard? A lot of reasons. Nothing motivates a rider, a team or a factory like losing. Winning a championship requires a lot of hard work and talent, but also a smattering of luck, and at some point, luck runs out. ...

g'day guys

i'm setting up my fiencee's laptop before i send it over to the philippines.

i like to get her a USB TV dongle (she is in leyte - Tinocdugan in Region VIII - Eastern Visayas in Philippines)
as far as im aware the Philippines uses the same frequency assignments and system as the U.S. (NTSC).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...lippines#Leyte

Channel 2 is between 54 and 60 MHz.
Channel 13 between 210 and 216 MHz.
Channel 41 between 632 and 638 MHz.

These are the frequency bands, by channel. The carrier frequency is offset from middle of the band by the fact that analog TV uses suppressed sideband AM for the picture and FM for the sound.

i been looking on ebay but unsure if they will work in the phil or only australia ?

http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Computer-...=tv+usb+dongle

anyone can help with this ?

Ay up. I've just lined everything up with this 'kit' that I bought off someone last year. The bracket bolts in just fine and everything looks ok apart from where the top mount uses the frame/subframe point to locate from and across to the mod bracket. With the tank mount plate (with rubber) in situ, it very slightly pushes the damper over from being square. Is this ok? I'm presuming the rubber damping around the bushes will take some of this play up? Cheers.

Long story short, my S has been in the kitchen over this winter whilst I did all manner of stuff, one thing I couldn't ignore was not checking the front exhaust cam follower buckets for cracks (again, huge thanks due to those on here who've brought it up). Thankfully, no cracks found so back in it went.

Fast forward to recently and despite everything either replaced, new or just set up, around idle the bike would stall for England. You could hear the rev's drop way below 1200 after each blip and then return to correct speed. Once rolling above say 20mph the bike was great, tons of welly and returning around 45mpg. But on Friday I'd had enough of having to use fast idle lever around town and near death stalling at junctions so back in bits again. Nothing looked out of place under the tank so I took both injectors out with a view to getting them ultrasonically cleaned.

Here's the weird part lol..sorry bit long winded but in my sleep last night I realised I may not have correctly timed up the cam when I put it back in the bike. Sure enough, one full tooth out. What a knob. Checked all of them in the end but just that one was out. I'm still going to have the injectors cleaned (Dynobike maybe) since its been stood an awful lot this bike and besides, the injectors are out now so it'd be crazy not to just in case. :)
