Australian Customs

Can anyone offer any advice.
My DR650 Ohlins rear shock and fork parts have been sitting in Brisbane (3500 kms away) for around three weeks. (thanks for telling me)
It now looks like i am going to be reamed on top of the AU$2000 (US$1900) spent so far, (The DR Ohlins (special order) is no longer available and the AU distributor was not interested in helping) i expected to pay some form of duty/tax.
The paper work is unbelievable and can only be done via fax .
Is a broker the only real way to go but being as said 3500 kms away makes that almost impossible.

Maybe someone can walk in there and pay the import duty they can walk out with them and forward them on for you. (Although ID might be a problem?)

Brisbane can't or wont forward them on to a closer PO?

Crap I've been busted for just sat at the local PO until I paid the duty, I didn't have to piss off to Melbourne

If you need any help from a Brisbane person let me know I promise I won't keep them for my own DR! Can't really offer and advice though I got stung by customs when I got the Bitubo for the TL but I just walked in and paid the $50 or 60 it was at the post office and walked out with it.

les I got some contact with them about 6 weeks ago. if the invoice is over 1000 au then it attracts tax.
they should have sent you a form to fax to them, with the opprtunity to declare its value.
they send you a bill
you then post them a cheque and they post you the part.
I can act as agent if you want

they operate thru aust post so you could probably pay at your local PO

If there isn't a receipt in the box then you should be able to claim some of the duty back but confirming that the insured amount is just that (what it would cost to replace) but infact you paid much less.

You will probably need a doctored receipt or proof of purchase etc though which can either be above board or may have to be fruadulant depending on how bitter you are at been charged

Good Luck

Actually i just threw the paperwork out the other day , youre supposed to keep them for 5 years for tax purposes! In effect you are applying to become an importer even if it is only for the one time

A good idea i have been using is MyUS freight forwarding out of the states. They combine shipments and then forward to me here in the U.A.E or the philippines. They remove the invoices which they scan and email to me then put a customs dec. to what ever value i choose.
Philippine customs are the most corrupt in the world and by doing this i have saved a small fortune on duties. It has paid for the service fee 10-20X over. Well worth it.
I have a Bitibo, Dobeck Performance TFI Electronic Jet Kit, Fuel filter for eternal tank mod and many other bits ($1500USD) there for shipment to me at the moment. They will value it at somewhere around $150 and so far all other shipments have bypassed customs and taxes.
Just waiting for a HID KIT from CW to really round off my early xmas present.
Any way its a thought for you guys outside the U.S like me to save a far wack on taxes and open up many more options for buying stuff.
They even will buy the stuff for you if the u.s company will not supply or ship overseas.
Just a thought.
Tony

Just read on the MYUS web site

1. To list the declared value for each package or item. Shipments to AUSTRALIA, BERMUDA, SOUTH AFRICA, NORWAY, NETHERLANDS must be declared at retail value.

So you australians are truly screwed.
P.S GO THE ALL BLACKS

https://www.myus.com Been using them for twelve months now with 9 plus shipments. Best service and no problems at all.
