That black band in the middle seems to be for spring deflection.

![]() If you are looking for different forks to fit, the 47mm twin chamber showa's are the best off road forks in the business. They come on late model suzuki RM/RMZ's and have been on honda MX machines since '97 (there have been improvements in valving, stiction and such over the years though).
